The suspects are a 53-year-old woman and her adult daughter and son. Investigators say prospective tenants were shown a property after responding to an online advert and were then asked to pay either the first month’s rent or a deposit.

The alleged victims said contact stopped after the payment was made. The investigation began after officers noticed several reports following a similar pattern. The suspects were arrested in Villarrobledo, where officers also searched a property and seized documentation believed to be forged.

The three people were brought before the Torrevieja court and released while the investigation continues. The Guardia Civil advises tenants to verify the landlord and property, avoid advance cash payments before signing a contract, keep receipts and report suspected fraud.
