Orihuela delays eight new taxi licences after rules are amended again

The new application period will last 20 calendar days, allowing existing applicants to update their documentation and new candidates to enter the process. The council says the changes are needed to protect equal treatment after technical and legal reports identified errors in the scoring criteria.

The delay is particularly significant on Orihuela Costa, where the available taxi fleet is considered insufficient during busy periods. Four of the planned licences are reserved for wheelchair-accessible vehicles, an area in which local disability advocates say the municipality already faces serious shortages.
