Emergency services received the call at 1.55am from a property on Calle Joaquín Chapaprieta. Firefighters found the man conscious but dazed inside the smoke-filled apartment and brought him outside for medical attention before he was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

The kitchen suffered the most serious damage. Initial indications suggest an unattended cooking pot may have started the blaze, although the exact cause has not yet been confirmed. The fire service completed its intervention at 2.50am, around 55 minutes after the emergency call.

The incident is a reminder that kitchen fires can fill a home with dangerous smoke very quickly, even before flames spread widely.
