The service is delivered by the hospital’s Home Hospitalisation and Palliative Care Unit. Its professionals provide medical attention and symptom control at home, aiming to offer support comparable to hospital care while allowing patients to remain in familiar surroundings during the final stage of life.
The people receiving care include patients with cancer, neurodegenerative conditions and advanced age-related needs. Support also covers emotional and social needs, not only physical symptoms. The hospital highlighted this work during Orihuela’s third Palliative Care Conference, which brought together professionals, families and carers to discuss the human side of care and the importance of shared support.
